The National Center of Excellence for the Molecular Prediction of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, PREDICT, is looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated PhD student in metabolomics and inflammatory bowel disease to join our international and interdisciplinary group of dedicated researchers at Department of Clinical Medicine, the Faculty of Medicine, Aalborg University, at the beautiful Copenhagen South Harbor campus. The stipend is available within the doctoral program Clinical Science, Laboratory and Translational Medicine, and is open for appointment from 1st of September 2025, or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is three years.

 

Your work tasks

We are looking for a dedicated PhD student to join our Metabolomics group, which focuses on characterizing preclinical metabolomic alterations in IBD and exploring their interactions with genetics, the gut microbiome, and dietary intake. As a PhD student you will be working closely with the Center’s interdisciplinary group of scientists to perform forefront, international research. You will be responsible for literature search, research protocol development, statistical analysis, writing of scientific papers, and presentation of your work at national and international meetings. You will work with basic and data scientists and researchers who will support you in the development of these skills. 

 

Your competencies

We are looking for a driven candidate with an interest in metabolomics, data science and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. 

The ideal candidate has:

  • A degree within biomedicine, biochemistry, computer science or similar
  • Experience with epidemiological research or statistics
  • Experience in writing scientific texts
  • Familiarity with programming (R or Python etc)
  • Excellent collaborative and team working skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English

 

Qualification requirements

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School in Medicine, Biomedical Science and Technology in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
