At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a PhD Stipend is available within the general study program. The PhD Stipend is open for appointment from 01.02.2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for 3 years, and the workplace is in Aalborg.
Your work tasks
You will be leading the establishment of a centralized repository for genomic data and metadata, with a strong emphasis on existing and novel methods for the evaluation of genome quality, indexing and clustering methods for genome-wide searches, and genome-based taxonomy and nomenclature. You will also interact with the internal and external project collaborators to establish modular and maintainable pipelines and explore large genomic datasets. Your tasks will include quantitative data analysis, sequence processing and evaluation, and pipeline development and automation. It is expected that you will lead the writing of manuscripts describing these efforts. Iterative FAIRification and Software documentation is also expected as part of the group’s efforts on Open and Reproducible Science.
Your competencies
A master’s degree in ecology, biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, or a closely related field is an advantage. Excellent oral and written English language skills are a requirement. Previous experience in computer programming is an advantage but is not required. A strong interest in evolutionary principles, ecological principles, and data science are expected. The applicant must be interested in working in an interdisciplinary research environment and must commit to upholding the highest ethical and academic standards.
Qualification requirements
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1124 of September 19, 2025 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
