The department was established in 1975. Today, we are located in two beautiful harbour-front locations in both Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,200 students across the two cities.

Our research and study programmes are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as the circular economy, technology, urban, energy, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation.

As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technology development, addressing real-life challenges. Our problem-oriented approach and close collaboration with businesses and public organisations form the foundation of all our study programmes. Additionally, our engineering programmes are among the best in Europe.

Job description
Research areas will be within housing, and particularly social housing, at the interface of housing studies and the study of urban planning, and geography. The research should aim to critically engage with contemporary changes in social housing systems in the Danish context, both with regards to how these changes relate to broader societal issues and the impact that these changes have for spatial justice outcomes in cities. Emphasis should be put on housing organizations, gentrification processes, and neighborhood transformation, as the research empirically engages with the challenges of affordable housing, sustainability, and inclusivity in different urban contexts.

Candidates are expected to have a PhD in urban planning, human geography, political science, or related fields, and to demonstrate a solid understanding of governance, spatial planning, and the institutional and social dynamics that shape urban and regional development.

Teaching will primarily be in the master programme of Urban Planning and Management (in English) as well as the Bachelor programme in Urban, Energy and Environmental Planning (in Danish), but also in other study programmes at the University, including support to the introduction to Problem-Based Learning for first year bachelors (in Danish).
