At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Aalborg University (AAU), one or more positions as Full or Associate Professor in Statistics are available from 1. February 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The positions are time unlimited.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences conducts research in a wide range of mathematical disciplines. The primary goal of this position is to strengthen our research in statistics, preferably within the current research areas of the department. This includes both fundamental and applied research (e.g., statistical methods for forensics, life sciences, topological data analysis, spatial statistics, and computational statistics). We encourage all qualified researchers to apply, especially those with research experience or future ambitions in biostatistics / statistics for life sciences. Full or Associate Professors are expected to play a major role in the Department's applications for externally funded projects.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences has three study programs: Mathematics (including a specialization in statistics at the master level), mathematical economics, and mathematics-technology. Teaching undertaken in this position will primarily be in mathematics and/or statistics, both at our department and for other study programs at the University.

Qualification requirements
Associate professor
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.
It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.
Professor
Applicants must be able to document a high degree of original academic production at an international level and experience from teaching at different levels. Including tests/exams, course/study programme management as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material.
Emphasis is placed on the extent to which the applicant has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.
Emphasis may moreover be placed on the applicant’s ability to carry out and develop research-based public-sector consultancy. Also, emphasis will be placed on an assessment of the applicant’s ability to perform research and teaching management tasks and possibly fulfil other functions, for example in relation to the university’s external cooperation.
Emphasis will also be placed on the applicant's ability to undertake pedagogical supervision, supervision and academic assessment work.
Assessment
The assessment of applicants for the position will be carried out by an assessment committee. Shortlisting will be applied. This means that the head of the department, with the assistance of the hiring committee, will select candidates for assessment. Candidates selected for assessment will then be informed about the composition of the assessment committee. All candidates will be notified whether they have been shortlisted for assessment or not. Applicants who are selected for assessment will have the opportunity to comment on their assessment. When the hiring process is completed, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.
