At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, two positions as Postdoc in Process Design, Integration, and Control for CCUS technologies are open for appointment from 01-07-2025 or soon hereafter.

Position #1 is fixed to end on 31-05-2028. Position #2 is fixed to end on 30-06-2028.

AAU Energy is a dynamic engineering research department in continuous growth and inspiring surroundings.

AAU Energy has a very international environment and covers all areas of clean and sustainable energy systems of the future within electrical, thermal and mechatronic energy technology. AAU Energy has campuses in both Aalborg and Esbjerg, this position is located in Esbjerg.

The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. AAU Energy has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 25 are administrative staff. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world.

Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.

The position is offered in relation to the research group Bio-to-X and the Postdoc will be positioned to the Esbjerg Energy Section at AAU’s campus in Esbjerg. Esbjerg plays a central role in establishing an industry within the topics of sustainable energy transition, CCUS and green fuels, as the current offshore industry in Denmark is centralized around Esbjerg due to its geographical location close to the North Sea.

Your work tasks     
Research areas will be within integration of chemical conversion systems, with a specific focus of electrolysis, carbon-capture, and methanol synthesis. The main research topic is modeling and advanced plantwide control for green fuels and CCUS systems.
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the position, the applicant should have strong engineering
qualifications in energy systems, with expertise in some of the following topics: Process modeling, control engineering, applied mathematics, multivariable data analysis, test and validation, and instrumentation.

Your Competencies
The applicant should have good knowledge of chemicals such as hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methanol. Experience with plant-wide process analysis, renewable energy systems and green fuels, advanced monitoring, and fluid dynamics will be advantageous. Writing funding proposals and project management will also be a requirement in this position. The applicant should also be able to carry out training programs within the topic of CCUS for Danish high school students, engineering students, and industry. Practical experience with design and construction of process systems and working with chemicals is advantageous.

Qualification requirements 
Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
