At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as postdoc in Advanced Drone-Based EM Measurements and Data Processing is open for appointment from August 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position is available for 12 months. The position might be possible to extend. In electronic engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and societal impact. The Department of Electronic Systems employs more than 200 people, of which about 90 are PhD students, and about 40 % of all employees are internationals. In total, it has more than 600 students in its BSc and MSc programs, which are based on AAU's problem-based learning model. The department leverages its unique research infrastructure and lab facilities to conduct world-leading fundamental and applied research within communication, networks, control systems, AI, sound, cyber security, and robotics. The department plays an active role in transferring inventions and results into applications in close collaboration with industrial partners worldwide. You can read more about the department at www.es.aau.dk
You will join the Grand Solution project "DRONES: Drone-Obtained Electromagnetic Signatures " to exploore innovative approaches such as drone-based radio testing for large objects and EM signiture characterization in complex in-situ environments. The key responsibility of the position is to develop post-processing methods to extra essential features from the collected measurement data despite drone positional inaccuracy, irregular sampling grids, variations in measurement conditions, and other measurement uncertainties.
The successful candidates should have excellent grades, strong mathematical and simulation skills and problem-solving mind-sets. It is desirable that the candidates have strong knowledge in at least one of the following research directions: 1) array signal processing 2) Radio channel sounding, estimation, and modeling 3) Integration design of SDR-based RF transceiver, 4) Antenna measurement in near-field and far-field condition and using complex and power-only measurement.
The research group is recognized internationally as a strong research group in radio propagation and antenna measurements. The group also pioneered over-the-air antenna testing for single-antenna handsets, which later became an international standard, and has also strongly influenced later testing of multi-antenna devices in 4G and 5G radios. The group is well known for its strong relationship with industry and experimentally based research, which is enabled by world top-notch laboratory facilities.
