At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, one or more positions as Research Assistant in hardware technology, is open for appointments from March first, 2026, or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is 2 years. 

Your work tasks
The position is offered in relation to the research program power electronics packaging materials and emerging applications, and the Research Assistant will be positioned to the section for power electronics system integration and materials.

Research area will be within emerging applications, more specifically hardware technology for heavy duty chargers at AAU Energy department.

Purpose is to design and build megawatt power electronics charger hardware and software for heavy-duty applications such as trucks. Design of hardware in the system with focus on physical hardware demonstrator to be operated at 1 megawatt and the tasks include PCB tools so a gate-drive can be built and tested. Then to be part of the work package team designing and building the demonstrator including designing the controllers and software implementation. During the work there are expected 5 publications. 

Your competencies
The applicant must have a relevant professional and/or educational background within MSc preferably with specialization in mechatronics.

We seek one or two people with a master’s degree with A/A-/B+ USA grade level and a MsC curriculum including project work experience on power electronics hardware and the understanding of mechanical control systems are required.  

Experience with hardware build up in the laboratory must include AC-DC connected converter as 12 pulse rectification and DC-DC converter using SiC power modules. Competence of subsystem components hardware buildup such as gate-drives must have been demonstrated. You must have investigated conducted noise generation of the power converter and implemented mitigation measures.

The control platform is based on ANSI C and Phyton software and experience with the software is required.

For the modelling of the system is used LTspice and QSpice and designing the controllers the MathWorks tool Matlab is used.

Research Assistant to be member of a team of experienced engineers who are going to do a 3-year project funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark under the Grand Solution program.

Qualification requirements
