At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Assistant Professor in power electronics-based power system is open for appointment from March 15, 2026, or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is 2 years.
Your work tasks
The position is offered in relation to the research group Electronic Power Grid "eGrid" and the Assistant Professor will be positioned in the section for Power Electronics System Integration and Materials.
Research areas will be within transient stability analysis of power systems with large penetration of power converter-based resources.
The overall tasks involved in the position are to develop new methodologies and tools for analysis of converter-driven transient stability of transmission system with a high penetration of inverter-based resources.
More specifically the expected activities will cover development of benchmark electromagnetic transient model for inverter-based dominated power system that can capture various types of power oscillations. This benchmark model will serve as the basis for validating the effectiveness of the methodologies/tools developed for small-signal stability analysis. Establish reliable metrics for fast initial stability screening of inverter-based-resources dominated power systems that are enabling identification of operational scenarios with high risk of instability. Establish in-depth scalable black-box based methodologies for small-signal stability analysis for bulk IBR-dominated power system.
Teaching will primarily be in supervising students at mainly master level at AAU Energy department, but also in other departments at the University.
Your competencies
The candidate should have an electrical engineering background with fundamental knowledge on transient stability of inverter-based power systems. The candidate must document knowledge on state-of the art methodologies and tools for assessing transient stability of power systems and small-signal modelling of power converters. Proven experience with dedicated electromagnetic transient tools such as PSCAD is required for the position.
The candidate should be prepared to teach in Danish in the future, as bachelor-level courses are primarily offered in Danish. Skills in Danish will therefore be positively evaluated. If Danish proficiency is not already present, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active effort to learn Danish as a second or third language.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.
