At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Postdoc in Megawatt range power converter for low and medium voltage, is open for appointment from February 2026 or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is 2 years.
Your work tasks
The position is offered in relation to the research group Power Electronics Packaging, Materials and Emerging Applications and the Postdoc will be positioned to the section for Power Electronics System Integration and Materials.
Research areas will be within electrification of society including low and medium voltage hardware
technology such as wind turbine applications, heavy duty truck chargers, medium voltage hardware technology for megawatt marine applications. The hardware tasks include development of new solutions for megawatt power stack and magnetic components where the research and development are focused on medium and low voltage. Hardware tasks include building test platforms for medium and low voltage power modules connections, measurement of relevant electrical signals, designing and building: water cooling system, gate drives, signal to power interface cards, designing magnetic transformers and inductors including simulation of circuits in QSpice and LTSpice and programming of design tools using C and Phyton.
The hardware test platforms are controlled by microcontrollers and it is needed to program the
microcontrollers and design the current and voltage control. There is a dissemination requirement where the new solutions should be patented or published at high level international conferences and journal papers. The position also includes a requirement of ability to work closely with companies and universities creating network for future research applications. A plan for research applications to be initiated during the postdoc period is an important task.
Your competencies
The applicant must have a relevant professional and/or educational background within power electronics hardware at a high international level demonstrated by numerous conference and journal publications.
Patent portfolio is expected. Experience with teamwork involving several people solving difficult power module and power converter hardware problems where there are unknowns is a requirement, and you must have contributed to the solution of the problems and be able to document it. You need to have an extensive knowledge of oscillations occurring paralleling SiC MOSFETs and power modules and must have experience with hardware methods to attenuate the oscillations successfully.
Your experimental experience must be relevant to the tasks and obtained from working with medium and low voltage high power power modules power converters and power magnetics interfacing to ac sources as electric machines and other power converters. It is also critical relevant you have learnt about and are experienced with safety requirements working with medium and low voltage high power converters and magnetics.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
